This Ubuntu page was really helpful. What was to like about it? There was chatter about a third-party developed WDM driver, but I have not succeeded in downloading it from anywhere. Was it any good? Pulled from a working system 10 years ago. I jzz16 yours is the same. A similar, but less detailed, listing of devices can be obtained via aplay —l.
In alsamixer, there is a mysterious 3-leveled control labelled Playback that seems to work like a gain multiplier making volume much louder. The waveblaster header may be in the traditional orientation parallel to the slot or sideways. Really the last mirror on the net for that one. INI or the sound will not work at all. It may help figuring out what parts are indeed working without spending who knows how many hours trying to get a system to work that’s broken.
As I mentioned, the installation instructions also say I should not have any sound lines in the autoexec.
